Preservatives

Bread box is a great way to store breads, rolls, bagels, buns, muffins, biscuits, croissants, pizza crusts, tortillas, and other baked goods. These containers are available in different sizes and shapes. They are usually made from plastic, metal, glass, ceramic, wood, and paper.

Freezing

To freeze bread, place it in a freezer safe container such as a bread box. Bread boxes are designed to protect bread from moisture loss during freezing. Place the bread in the bread box and wrap tightly with aluminum foil. Store the bread in the freezer until frozen solid. Remove the bread from the bread box and transfer to a resealable freezer bag. Label the bag with the date and contents. Freeze the bread for up to 6 months. To thaw frozen bread, remove the bread from the freezer bag and allow to sit at room temperature for 1 hour. Thawed bread can be used immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Refrigerate

To store bread in the refrigerator, cut off the crusts and slice the bread into pieces about ½ inch thick. Wrap each piece individually in plastic wrap and place in a zipper-lock freezer bag. Refrigerate the bread for up to 5 days. To freeze bread, follow steps above but instead of wrapping the bread in plastic wrap, wrap it in heavy duty aluminum foil. Place the wrapped bread in a zipper-lock bag and freeze for up to 2 weeks. To thaw frozen loafs, unwrap the bread and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
